A typical Saturday afternoon for an El Paso woman took a turn for the worst after she was attacked by two pit bulls in the Lower Valley.

“I was almost at the end of my jog and I saw them coming up from a ditch. I knew I wasn’t supposed to run, so I just stopped in my tracks,” said the woman.

The attack happened near Hawkins and Stiles. The woman says this is a route she would jog almost every day, sometimes twice a day.

The dogs started biting on her shoe. She says their teeth were so sharp they ripped right through the sole and into her foot.

“I managed to get some super strength, I have no idea from where,” said the woman. “They had me like a rag doll on the street, just throwing me around.”

The woman was able to kick off her shoe, enough for her to distract the dogs and climb up a nearby tree.

“That’s when they bit my upper right thigh and legs. I could see just blood going down the tree and going down my leggings,” said the woman.

Neighbors say they could hear her screams. People driving by stopped to help when they saw what was happening.

“If it wasn’t for them I could’ve been killed. They stayed with me and called 911. I can’t sleep. I wake up in the middle of the night and I’m thinking of it. I’m thinking of how they had me like a rag doll and of how so lucky I am,” said the woman.

The woman won’t be able to walk for several months and is preparing for surgery on her foot. She also plans on meeting with a therapist to work through the emotional toll the attack is taking on her.

Right now, she says all she’s hoping is that the same thing doesn’t happen to somebody else.

“I see a lady with her caretaker walking every morning and I’m just so glad that it didn’t happen to them. Buy pepper spray, buy mace, carry a stick, and just be on the lookout,” said the woman. “I don’t know how I managed to get away from them but I’m grateful.”

The two pit bulls were found on Wednesday afternoon. They belong to people in that same neighborhood.

El Paso Animal Services currently has them in quarantine and the case under investigation.
