EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) -- The El Paso Police Department has identified the 32-year-old man who died after a shooting took place outside a club in Northeast El Paso on Sunday.
Demarquis Quintev Smith of Ft. Bliss died as a result of a shooting. CBS4 confirmed with Ft. Bliss that Smith was not a soldier.
Police are looking for the suspect identified as 27-year-old Ahmond Shariff Williams.
Williams is not from El Paso and has not been arrested. Police said he is wanted for murder.
El Paso police were called out to 8216 Dyer around 5 a.m. Sunday.
Police said Smith was in a car, exiting Club Hush when shots were fired at the vehicle.
Smith was transported by friends to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, where he died.
His close friend Cece tells CBS4 Smith was very popular in El Paso.
"I was supposed to be there. And I had to go take care of some other business. And when I woke up in the morning and seen everything on Facebook, my heart was broken. Because I just seen him in the club Saturday night. I just seen him and we were taking shots and having a good time. I just seen him! And for him just to be gone like that, it hurts!" said Cece.
She says this shooting was senseless.
“He just liked to go out and enjoy himself and have a good time. He wasn’t ever looking for trouble. Whoever did what they did to him, karma is a (expletive), that’s all I can say.” said Cece.
She says Smith was always smiling and cheering people up and said he had a baby on the way.
The investigation is ongoing.
