Commuters in west El Paso traveling along Interstate 10 Friday evening will have to find an alternate route.

TxDOT officials said there will closure along I-10 West between Executive Boulevard and Sunland Park Drive beginning at 9 p.m. Friday.

The periodic closure will last until 6 a.m. Saturday.

Road crews will be installing beams for the new Paisano Bridge over I-10, said TxDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Wright.

Then on Sunday from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, the eastbound lanes along I-10 will be closed off between the North Mesa Exit and the North Mesa Entrance Ramp, said Wright.

This will affect North Mesa Street as well. Both directions along Mesa under the I-10 Overpass in west El Paso will close down Sunday from 3 a.m. until Sunday at 6 a.m. Wright says this closure could be lifted sooner.

The North Mesa Entrance Ramp which is near Village Inn restaurant along South Desert Boulevard that allows driver to head east on I-10 will be closed Sunday from 3 a.m. until Sunday at 6 a.m.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down in that area as crews are on site working on the Go10 project.

Motorists will be directed to exit at North Mesa Street (SH 20), head to Doniphan Drive, take Doniphan Drive to Sunland Park Drive, then reenter I-10 East at the Sunland Park Entrance Ramp.

Wrights says if weather does not allow crews to work on the project this weekend, then it will moved up to next weekend.
