LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14/CBS4) — Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education named an interim superintendent on Tuesday.
LCPS Chief of Staff Sherley O'Brien will assume the role on April 8 and will serve until August 15 or until the board enters a contract with a new superintendent, whichever comes first.
"I am humbled and honored to serve as your interim superintendent. The board has laid out a thoughtful and thorough plan that will have a permanent superintendent that will have a home at the district by August 15," said O'Brien at Tuesday's board meeting.
O'Brien was offered a pro-rated salary of $172,500 per year.
Her appointment was passed unanimously by the board.
"I have some big shoes to fill," she said.
O'Brien holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with an endorsement in early childhood education and a Master of Arts in education administration.
She served as an assistant principal in the district and has extensive experience in human resources running private businesses before joining LCPS.
She will take over for Superintendent Ralph Ramos who announced his resignation on March 9.
"I really look forward to working with interim superintendent O'Brien in this transition," Ramos said.
