A 19-year-old woman who died in a crash in Las Cruces over the weekend has been identified.

Sierra Knox, of Las Cruces, was pronounced dead Saturday at a hospital, Las Cruces police said.

The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. Saturday along the 2000 block of Desert Willow Court, near University Avenue.

Knox was driving a Ford F-150 pickup when she crashed through a rock wall and came to a rest in the backyard of a residence, police said.

Investigators determined Knox was traveling westbound along University Avenue when she failed to negotiate a turn and crashed through a rock wall near the intersection of University and Desert Sand Street.

The pickup truck crashed into the backyard of a home along Desert Willow Court, police said.

They said Knox was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Speed and alcohol are possible contributing factors to the crash, police said.

No other injuries were reported.

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate the incident.
