Local 8-year-old raises money to give teddy bears to children
There is an El Paso girl who is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
For the past two years, 8-year-old Kaylee Castillo has been on a mission to help others.
She raises money to buy teddy bears. Last year, she gave them to child refugees arriving in the Borderland. She raised the money by selling candy.
This year, she was able to raise enough money to buy 210 teddy bears she donated to the child crisis center and the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes and Children Unit.
We asked her how she got her inspiration.
“In second grade, I had to do a saints’ project and I chose Mother Theresa. She helped the poor and that showed me that I could help the poor like she did.”
