Local Bandidos chapter president laid to rest Saturday morning

Funeral procession for Bandidos chapter president Juan Martinez

More than 500 bikers honored Bandidos Chapter President Juan Martinez at a memorial service Saturday morning.

The funeral Mass was held at St. Mark Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Afterward, the procession traveled to Evergreen Cemetery East on Montana Avenue.

“Today, if anybody saw anybody on the road on a motorcycle, they knew that there’s pain in El Paso,” Bandidos Motorcycle Club National President Clifton “Dozer” Roberts said. “We ride all over this country to come do that and pay those respects.”

Two by two, bikers from multiple motorcycle clubs, including the Bandidos, filed into the cemetery for the burial.

There was a large police presence, including the El Paso Police Department, the Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, at the cemetery. The department affiliation of a helicopter circled overhead could not be determined.

Roberts said the focus of today was on the Bandidos brotherhood, and not the ongoing police investigation into Martinez’s death.

“My focus was on the closure of this club and what was going on with this club,” he said. “(Martinez) was our guy and we helped him with his journey.”

Martinez was shot at Mulligan’s Chopped Hog on July 30th and later died from his injuries.
