Local law enforcement departments to increase patrols, checkpoints Fourth of July week
Local authorities will be keeping the streets safe this Fourth of July weekend.
The El Paso Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety will be conducting a safety operation on July 3 and July 4 to reduce the number of crashes, deaths and injuries throughout the city, police said.
Troopers and officers will be on the lookout for speeders and those driving while intoxicated.
The Texas Department of Transportation will also enforce the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Monday through Saturday.
TXDOT officials said the focus of this operation will be to crack down on DWI offenders.
Drivers should expect to see an increase in patrol units on all public roads.
The Las Cruces Police Department announced an increase in sobriety checkpoints and officers on patrol during the month of July.
Officers will also be watching out for safety violations, such as drivers using their cellphones, people not using seat belts and those driving children without proper car seats.
