A Las Cruces man accused of attacking his wife and holding her against her will is facing criminal charges.

According to police, Jose Esquivel, 29, and his wife have been estranged and he wasn’t supposed to be at their home.

The two got into an argument on Jan. 31, which continued into the night, police said.

A few days later, on Feb. 1, police were dispatched to the home on Boutz Road after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

Police learned that the woman was suffering from several non-life-threatening injuries.

When officers arrived, Esquivel initially identified himself by another name, police said.
