Man woke up to girlfriend stabbing him, Las Cruces police say

Aurelia Reyes faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

A Mesilla woman accused of stabbing her sleeping boyfriend was arrested Monday night.

Officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. Monday to a home on the 1000 block of 9th Street, where they found a 54-year-old man with a laceration to his chest, police said.

Police said the victim was awakened by Aurelia Lorena “Leah” Reyes, who was armed with a fixed-blade knife and stabbing his upper chest.

Police said the two where in an on-again, off-again relationship, but spent the last few days together.

The victim said he plead with Reyes to let go on the knife, but she refused. The man went next door for help, and was taken to Mountainview Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Officers found Reyes, 32, still armed with the knife, near the corner of Valley Drive and Parker Road.

She was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She is initially being held without bond in the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
