Murder charge dropped for father arrested in the death of Devon Leatherbury
DA drops murder charge brought against man arrested in Devon Leatherbury's death
The murder charge brought against a man arrested in the 2016 shooting death of Devon Leatherbury has been dropped, according to court records.
The murder case against Richard Zelonis was declined by the district attorney’s office on June 26. The DA will now only be pursuing a tampering with evidence charge against him. His bond was also lowered from $750,000 to $50,000, court records show.
Zelonis and his son, 27-year-old Aaron Anthony Zelonis, were arrested on June 23 and charged with killing Leatherbury.
Leatherbury’s body was discovered on the 12700 block of Dyer Street near the Texas-New Mexico state line on Aug. 16, 2016.
An autopsy report showed that Leatherbury had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
Aaron remains jailed on a $1 million bond for the murder charge.
