Northeast El Paso will soon have water park at Cohen Stadium
The northeast will soon have a water park at Cohen Stadium.
Money now approved by City Council will help authorities move forward with the first phase of the Cohen Reimagined Project.
"There will be things to do out here and keep the kids entertained," Frank Sosa said.
The water park is just a small part of the complete transformation expected at Cohen.
"It's a culmination of a lot of hard work and planning. We have a master developer who truly understands the whole concept of an entertainment district," said City Council Member Sam Morgan.
The first phase of the project will consist of the water park.
"I think it will be great. I would go. I would take my daughter," Rafael Sanchez said.
It will cost about $7.7 million to build the water park at Cohen Stadium.
"I think it will be great because it's so hot and dry here," McCuen Fox said.
The entire entertainment district is being funded by both public and private investment
"Residents of the northeast made it very clear we don't need more residential ,we need something that is family oriented and that is more of a destination type event," Morgan said.
The latest designs now include a high definition Jumbotron, a public square, retail stores and restaurants.
"It's great just to bring some money to the northeast. So definitely I will be going," Sanchez said.
Construction on the water park is set to begin next spring. It should be completed by summer 2020.
