Fort Bliss soldier killed in motorcycle crash on Loop 375 and Montana
The 20-year-old man killed in a motorcycle wreck on Mother's Day was identified as a soldier.
Eric James Merwin was on active duty at Fort Bliss, according to El Paso police.
Special traffic investigators responded to the deadly motorcycle crash along the southbound lane on Loop 375 near Montana, around 3 a.m.
According to the DPS, a trooper tried to make a traffic stop on the driver of a 2003 Yamaha Motorcycle.
Merwin didn’t yield to authorities and began to evade them.
The preliminary investigation found that the driver lost control and hit the guardrail. He crashed on Loop 375 at mile post 35, according to DPS.
He suffered fatal injuries and died at scene according to investigators.
El Paso police reported that this is the 16th fatality this year, compared to 17 at this time last year.
