EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — El Paso police are investigating an officer-involved shooting.
It happened on Trawood Drive near George Dieter Drive Monday morning.
Darrel Petry, spokesman for the El Paso Police Department said they received several calls about shots fired in a neighborhood nearby.
He said they pursued a man who they believed was involved in the incident. While fleeing, the man crashed his vehicle into a parked vehicle in the Wind Tree apartment complex.
Officers say the man then tried to flee on foot and when officers exited their cars, they said he pulled out a handgun.
Officers then opened fire, hitting him. The man has been hospitalized with serious injuries. The El Paso Fire Department says they performed CPR on the man.
The officers involved were not injured. One male officers involved is a 2-year veteran assigned to the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center and one female officer also involved is a 1-year veteran also assigned to the Pebble Hills Regional Command Center.
Their identities have not been released at this time.
EPPD’s Crimes Against Persons Internal Affairs Shooting unit and the Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident.
EPPD says they're expecting the portion of Trawood to be closed until at least 3 p.m. Monday.
