Police identify victim, suspect in El Paso's latest homicide investigation
El Paso's latest murder suspect connected to the slaying of an 18-year-old man was identified by police.
Edward Montelongo, 34, is accused of stabbing Kenneth Thomas Guerra-Torres, 18, multiple times and killing him, according to El Paso police Sgt. Enrique Carrillo.
The investigative unit, Crimes Against Persons, began its investigation on Sunday at the 10700 block of Forest Ridge Lane near the intersection of Yarbrough Drive and Vista Del Sol Drive.
Police officers arrived on the scene around 1:15 p.m. to perform a welfare check.
Officers found Guerra-Torres dead at the scene.
Earlier in the morning, police responded to a stabbing at a nearby Circle K convenience store.
That stabbing happened around 3 a.m. around the corner near Vista Del Sol Drive and Vista Del Oro Drive.
Police spoke with the stabbing victim at the hospital and learned that Montelongo had first stabbed the hospitalized victim and later killed Guerra-Torres.
Montelongo was taken into custody at the scene on Forest Ridge Lane and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for the charge of murder and one of aggravated assault.
Alexus Renteria lives nearby the scene. She tells CBS4 she heard lots of commotion last night and believes the stabbing may have been related to the homicide.
“It was basically a lot of screaming and yelling outside. Different cars coming out back and forth. Lot of screaming more than anything just because we had the door open all night and that’s what we heard going on,” said Renteria.
Another neighbor, Alejandro Bacerra, said he feels threatened.
“I’ve been living here for 5five years and nothing has happened that way,” said Bacerra.
