EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 53-year-old man who died while riding a dirt bike along a canal in El Paso's Lower Valley was identified.
David Herrera of Horizon City was found dead Sunday along a canal area in the 1100 block of N. Zaragoza Sunday before 7 p.m.
Police investigators believe Herrera had been at the scene, south of Blackie Chesher Park, dead since earlier in the day.
They said a passerby alerted police to Herrera.
The investigation revealed that Herrera was a X-Pro Hawk Off-road motorcycle eastbound in the canal when he came upon a sudden drop-off.
Herrera was unable to stop and fell onto a lower portion of the canal, police stated.
The canal area Herrera was riding on is not open for any vehicles or persons to travel on.
Since Herrera's death did not occur in a public street it will not be counted in the traffic fatality numbers.
