Man suspected of being drunk burned during electrical explosion at Montana substation

A man who police say may have been drunk was burned after he was involved in an explosion at the Montana electrical substation.

The incident happened just before 7 a.m. Friday at the substation at 5705 Montana Ave.

Police officers responded to a drunk disturbing call and when they arrived they saw the injured man inside the substation. During that time, an explosion happened and the man was thrown to the ground.

The man was taken to University Medical Center and later transported to the Lubbock Burn Center for treatment, police said.

The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons unit is working to identify the injured man.

As a result of the explosion, thousands of El Paso Electric customers were left without power in south central, central and east El Paso.

Electricity was restored just before 8:30 a.m.
