Several people affected after gas outage in East El Paso
Texas Gas Service said they found out water had gotten into their gas system on Saturday.
The utility tells CBS4 On Your Side it started working on drying out the lines, but it affected several streets in the Lomaland neighborhood.
Many people affected were elderly.
“We gotta buy our breakfast, lunch and dinner basically cause we can’t cook. Our showers are really cold,” said Gilbert Estrada a customer who is waiting for his gas to be restored.
Texas gas says they have an outage from Vista del Sol to Sandland.
“They went out on Saturday morning. We were gonna make breakfast, we didn’t have any gas on our stove," said Estrada.
“We were just here at home and then we smelled a strong odor of gas, strong to the point we had to leave because it was giving us headaches," said Ricardo Brito another person affected.
CBS4 on your side called Texas Gas Service to find out what options are available for neighbors.
The utility says their technicians are going into homes to do safety checks on gas appliances.
Estrada said he wasn't told about the outage and called the company instead.
“It was the same answer you know, nothing concerned about the customer. It was just ‘well you gotta live with it’ that’s the way it came across," said Estrada.
Texas gas said on Monday they're working on restoring gas service for customers north of I-10.
They say they're making their way through the neighborhoods and will leave a note on your door with information on reaching them.
Customers can get updates on the progress to fix the gas here.
