SISD bond projects continue to move on schedule toward construction

The Socorro Independent School District is moving full speed ahead with the latest bond projects.

SISD officials said in November that they would begin discussing getting contractors on board in December.

The first four projects are already going up for bid.

Those include the reconstruction of Socorro High School, the new Socorro Activities Complex, the new middle school near Eastlake High School, and a new elementary school.

“We have to go through the design process. So we’ll get the professional services the architects the engineers on board and we’ll start designing the facilities meeting with the campuses,” said chief operations officer Tom Eyeington.

On Tuesday, board members also discussed land acquisition in order to expand both the SAC and Socorro High School.

Several properties have already been purchased for the expansion of the high school. Board members are still considering which properties to acquire near the SAC.

Eyeington said that the district already has a prototypical design for the new elementary school.

It will look like Purple Heart Elementary School once completed.

The district said all projects are on schedule and should start construction later in 2018.
