EL PASO, Texas - Starting this week, Socorro ISD will use robots in classrooms.

It's called the Swivel Robot. Teachers will wear a marker around their necks while they're presenting lecturing. Anywhere the teacher moves, the robot follows and records the entire lesson.

"Our absent students are able to log on," said Pebble Hills High School Curriculum Coach April Granados. "Maybe they're not in class and they're home sick that day, they can log on and watch."

SISD said it's also beneficial to students in class as well.

"Students are able to go back later, and if there's some component of the lesson that was maybe a little fuzzy to them, they are able to go ahead and re-watch that segment of the lesson and help them better clarify," Granados said.

Students and teachers can also use a phone to grade papers in real time.

Also, all students will now receive laptop computers as freshmen, and get to keep the laptops until they graduate.
