Storms force cancellation of Chihuahuas game, partial closure of I-10
Heavy flooding forced police and fire crews to help cars stuck along Mesa Street Friday evening.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Warning for El Paso until 10:30 p.m.
Over two inches of rain fell over parts of Central and West El Paso.
CBS4’s Kelly Anne Beile was in west El Paso near Mesa and McKelligon drives when officers and fire crews were called to assist a driver who was stuck in floodwaters.
Officers also closed Mesa between Mesita and Kern Drives due to dangerous flooding.
Traffic going west on I-10 came to a standstill around 8:15 p.m. after three lanes were closed. The El Paso Police Department tweeted that the lane closures were due to flooding near Porfirio Diaz.
Fans at Southwest University Park scrambled to get out of the path of strong winds and rain. The Chihuahuas game against Sacramento was postponed until Saturday at 5 p.m., according to a spokesperson with the team. The doubleheader will consist of two seven inning games. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
Fans can exchange Friday tickets for a ticket of equal or lesser value, based on availability.
