Police arrest man accused of injuring DJ Swift in hit-and-run in Central El Paso
The El Paso Police Department said they have arrested the man accused of injuring local DJ Swift when he was struck by a white pickup in Central El Paso in early August.
The man arrested has been identified as Pedro Manuel Reyes. Reyes was arrested on Monday.
The hit-and-run happened in an alley in the 800 block of Piedras Street, near Dewey's Corner Pub, around 2:15 a.m. in August.
According to El Paso police, a pickup truck turned down the alley, where Christian Ortiz, known as DJ Swift, was standing next to his vehicle. The pickup truck hit Ortiz, said police.
Witnesses said Ortiz was loading his car around 2:30 a.m. with his DJ gear after playing at the bar.
In the footage the white pick up truck can be seen leaving the scene.
Witnesses said Ortiz was trying to flag the driver to let him know that there wasn't enough space for him to pull through and that his car was in the way. But when Ortiz walked out to signal, that's when the truck immediately started driving, smashing Ortiz and then speeding away.
Rico Velez, owner of Dewey's Pub Corner, said Ortiz suffered multiple injuries including a lacerated kidney, lacerated liver, fractured clavicle, multiple vertebrae-dislocated and a collapse lung.
Reyes is being charged with accident involving serious bodily injury. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
