Suspects in drug deal captured after police chase
A police chase involving a pickup truck that ended in northeast El Paso started in the eastside Thursday.
Gang unit investigators with the El Paso Police Department discovered an altercation took place during a drug deal Thursday around 12:20 a.m. in the 10000 block of Honolulu Drive in east El Paso, said police spokesman Darel Petry.
The people inside pickup truck were identified as 18-year-old Joshua Borrego and 21-year-old Edgar Monroy, said Petry.
The investigation revealed Borrego pointed a handgun at three men -- two 20 years of age and one 17 -- and Monroy threatened them with a knife.
Police responded to the scene after a call reporting a situation with a gun was made, said Petry.
When they arrived, the pickup truck was parked down the street. Police tried conducting a stop, but the truck fled.
The pickup truck came to a stop when it struck a curb in the 9400 block of Railroad Drive and flipped over, said Petry.
Gang unit investigators recovered a handgun and a knife inside the pickup truck, said Petry.
Borrego was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest or detention motor vehicle. His bonds totaled $425,000. Monroy was arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bonds totaled $400,000.
The investigation is ongoing.
