Teenage El Paso boy found in desert honored in memorial service
Devin Kelley was remembered as a “fun-loving kid” who took his own life last week.
Family, friends and a local community will be gathering to pay their respects to Kelley.
The family says a viewing is scheduled for Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a memorial slated to start at 6 p.m. at Evergreen East Funeral Home at 12400 Montana Avenue.
A GoFunMe account was set up to raise money to lay Kelley to rest.
On Tuesday, the account has surpassed its $10,800 goal and reached $12,028.
The family has been posting its gratitude for the outpouring support online.
As many of you know by now our son Devin Kelley is no longer with us. Since he was found deceased a gofundme account was set up to help with his funeral expenses. As of now we had 253 donations ranging anywhere from $5-$1,000. It has been shared over 3,200 times, has 304 likes, and raised over $11,900 and is still growing. I want to personally thank everyone who took time to leave a heartfelt message and/or a donation for his burial. The viewing and Memorial Service will be held at 12400 Montana at the Evergreen East Funeral Home here in El Paso, Thursday 16 November 2017. The viewing will be from 4PM-8PM with Pastor Morris holding a memorial service at 6PM. The viewing and Memorial Service is open to the public and we would love to see any who knew and loved Devin to attend. Now I ask for this post to go viral again so all who had a part in helping or healing gets this message. So please share this post for all to see.
Family, friends and supporters of Kelley have been posting to social media that an action to stop bullying needs to happen.
As for this particular case, Socorro Independent School District cannot comment on what happened because it is a private matter, said Daniel Escobar, a district spokesman.
