Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso campus volunteered Saturday morning to honor Martin Luther King and give back to the Borderplex.

The event was held at various locations throughout the city.

The university hosted events like the "Chop It Like It's Hot" at the Wellness for the Downtown Community with the help of partners like The Salvation Army, Opportunity Center for the Homeless, and El Paso Coalition for the Homeless.

The event gave free haircuts, bags of hygiene supplies, and a free introductory yoga class that will teach breathing exercises according to organizers.

Services like libraries, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics, and the Texas Dental Oral Health Clinic will be closed Monday in observance of MLK Day.
