EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) -- The Texas Department of Transportation is continuing its free towing program for drivers on I-10.
The department is launching a social media campaign to remind drivers of its program.
Since launching in October, TxDOT said it's towed nearly 2,000 cars to designated drop-off points.
“Towing stalled vehicles and vehicles involved in non-serious crashes has improved clearing times on I-10,” said TxDOT El Paso District Engineer Bob Bielek. “We have made a difference in shortening the length of traffic tie-ups.”
Several drivers told CBS4 they haven’t heard of the program before but support it.
“That helps with traffic jams and those types of things that happen on I-10. I-10 is always super busy and stuff,” Steven Schubert said.
The program tows drivers for free on I-10 between Viscount and Thorn. TxDOT said there are few shoulders and scattered exits, which can cause traffic backups from a stalled car or minor crash.
