Waitlist for YWCA swim classes as summer begins

More parents enrolling kids in swim classes.

The YWCA El Paso del Norte Region seeing high numbers of parents enrolling their children for swim lessons, so much so, they've had to start a wait list.

Matthew Doherty, certified lifegaurd and aquatics director with the YWCA, tells CBS4 a lot of people have taken an interest in getting their kids enrolled in swim lessons this year.

Doherty is happy to see that parents are realizing that swimming is a life skill.

The YWCA works with the drowning coalition to get the word out about water safety to local schools.

According to Doherty, this is why they have had such a great response.

The YWCA is working to get more instructors to pick up some of that load.

Sessions run two weeks at a time.

Private and group lessons are still available.
