Woman arrested at Lower Valley 7 Eleven accused of damaging vehicle
El Paso police released new information about an incident that happened outside a 7 Eleven in Lowe Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
The video posted to several social media accounts from witnesses show a police officer holding down a woman, who has been identified as 35-year-old Virginia Gonzalez, in front a 7 Eleven at 9050 Alameda Ave.
Gonzalez, who was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, was accused of banging on a person’s vehicle along the roadway.
El Paso police spokesman Darel Petry said the police officer in the video was conducting a traffic stop in the 100 block of South Zaragoza Drive when a motorist flagged the unidentified officer down to report that Gonzalez had banged on his driver’s side window of his vehicle.
In the news release, Petry stated that the motorist returned to tell the police officer that Gonzalez was at the 7 Eleven.
After the traffic stop, Petry said he went to the convenience store and found Gonzalez under the influenc.
While the police officer was placing Gonzalez under arrest for public intoxication, she assaulted the officer, he said.
Gonzalez is accused of punching the police officer in the face and resisting arrest.
She was taken into custody after the struggle and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
She was issued a $857 bond.
Footage of the incident shows crews with TV show Live PD were filming the incident.
Witnesses of the incident are heard accusing the police officer of punching Gonzalez in the face.
Gonzalez is heard screaming, “I can’t breathe.”
The news release released Thursday stated, "The El Paso Police Department is aware that a video of this incident was placed on social media. At this time, it appears that the officer used the necessary force to effect the arrest."
Wednesday’s arrest comes a week after video surfaced on Facebook showing a police officer of the El Paso Police Department pulling out his handgun at a group of kids accused of trespassing at a vacant apartment in south central El Paso
