Woman struck in head by rock while hiking Saturday afternoon

A 35-year-old woman is recovering Saturday night after being struck on the head by a rock while hiking, fire officials say.

The El Paso Fire Department said they were called out to the Ron Coleman Trail in the Franklin Mountain State Park around 12:58 p.m. Saturday.

The fire department says they arrived at 1:10 p.m., and sent a rescue party up the trail to find and help the hiker.

The ComSAR team was called out immediately to help the injured hiker.

The woman was treated for her injuries and was airlifted to University Medical Center.

The El Paso Fire Department said no ComSAR personnel was injured.

Fire officials said a total of 6 units and 10 personnel from the El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police, Customs Border Protection and Texas Parks and Wildlife responded to the incident.
