EL PASO, Texas — Some drivers stuck on I-10 when it was shut down after a semitruck crashed into a utility bridge decided to get out of the traffic jam by going the wrong way.
A viewer sent in photos of drivers going the opposite way on the Sunland Park flyover ramp.
I-10 east was closed at Executive Boulevard and I-10 west was shut down at Stanton Street.
Drivers on the I-10 during that closure turned around and went the opposite way.
Thursday, a semitruck driver with White Mountain Trucking drove off the road and into a utility bridge, causing the truck to catch fire.
A spokesperson for the company said the driver was reaching for a water bottle and that’s how the crash happened.
Bob Bielek with the Texas Department of Transportation said a portion of I-10 in both directions will continue to be closed until at least Saturday as crews work to fix the utility bridge that is used for water, gas, electrical and phone lines.
The driver of the semitruck managed to escape the flames with minor injuries.
