$1K worth of turkeys donated to 'Hanksgiving' pay it forward team

It's an annual act of kindness that takes place at the home of the Knights.

"Hanksgiving" is organized by Hanks High School liaison Monica Lopez.

The giving event has been happening for more than a decade.

Lopez collects turkeys and other food items that can be cooked for Thanksgiving dinner for people in need.

This year the KFOX14/CBS4 Pay It Forward team donated $500 worth of turkeys to Lopez and her team.

When local attorney Michael J. Gopin and Meteorologist Sandra Diaz arrived at Walmart to buy turkeys, Walmart in return matched their purchase.

Our #PIF team was able to donate $1,000 worth of turkeys.

Lopez's reaction when the delivery was made was what Thanksgiving is all about!

About 500 local families and some non-profit organizations in El Paso will get to enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving!
