Child Crisis Center of El Paso is an organization that gives families a second chance and an opportunity.

The center was opened 40 years ago by Mary Russell.

She opened up the center because some of her grandchildren were victims of abuse.

She realized there wasn’t a safe haven for children victims of abuse and neglect,” said Enrique Davila, the chief executive officer at the center. “She and her husband started a nursery which then evolved into the Child Crisis Center.

The Child Crisis Center started off in a house then moved to its current location.

“The children are so sweet and loving. They need your help,” said Michael Gopin.

The center takes care of newborn babies and children up to 13 years old.

About 90 percent of children placed at the center are brought by Child Protective Services.

“A small percentage is from parents seeking relief that are exhausted and don’t want to strike a child and ask for the center to take care of the child for say three days,” said Davila.

The average stay for a child is between 3-4 months.

The center is licensed to have 39 children but currently houses 24 not because they don't have enough beds but because they don’t have enough staff.

Pay It Forward donated a check to the Child Crisis Center.

If you want to help out you can donate at childcrisicentereofelpaso.org or volunteer to help at the center.
