The Pay It Forward chose the Opportunity Center for the homeless for the month of November.

The Opportunity Center has been operating for over 27 years.

"We started with our single program, which was the men's program and today we've expanded to include nine houses and 15 programs," said John Martin director of the Opportunity Center. "We want to add a second floor to the building, not to expand the shelter for women but to add permanent housing."

Martin said they work with about 400 people a night.

"If you really think about it, anyone can become homeless within a day," said Sandra Diaz. "A lot of times these people on the streets, it's not by choice."

Martin said the shelter needs cold-weather clothing.

Michael Gopin asks the community to help and donate to the center or help by volunteering.
