EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso Police Department investigators believe speed may have been a contributing factor in a rollover crash that left an 18-year-old Eastwood High School senior dead on Tuesday.
Police said Dante Luna was driving west on Montwood Drive in the left lane when he reportedly lost control of his 2005 Nissan Altima at a curve and veered right. As a result, Luna hit several wooden barriers and rolled over near Catnip Street.
Luna was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, according to police.
The single-vehicle crash happened at 10:39 a.m.
Luna died two weeks before graduation on June 6.
This is the 26th traffic death of the year as compared to 29 at this time last year.
A memorial of candles and flowers was set up on the sidewalk where the crash happened.
