Former Las Cruces High guard Deuce Benjamin will no longer play at his hometown university. Benjamin announced Tuesday that he would be entering the portal and transferring out of New Mexico State University.

On his Twitter, Benjamin posted a statement with the news saying that the coaching staff "recently informed him that it would be in [his] best interest to continue [his] education and basketball career elsewhere."

Benjamin also said his time playing for the team he grew up rooting for, was nothing as he hoped.

"Due to the actions of others (which I will not go into here) that dream changed into a nightmare," said Benjamin in his statement.

Benjamin the son of former Aggie William Benjamin, was the Gatorade MaxPreps player of the Year in New Mexico, scoring 25 points a game and led the Bulldawgs to a state title in 2020.

Benjamin's only appearance for the Aggies came in an exhibition game against Western New Mexico where he scored 5 points in eight minutes of play.
