Rhinos host best-of-three championship series

Rhinos fans celebrate a goal

The El Paso Rhinos are closing in on a divisional championship.

This weekend, they will host the rival Oklahoma City Blazers in a best-of-three series to determine the champion of the Midwest Division.

Friday’s game will start at 7 p.m. and Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. puck drop. If necessary, the rubber match will be at 4:30 p.m. Sunday. All of the games will be played at the El Paso County Events Center. Tickets can be bought on Ticketmaster.com or by calling the El Paso County Coliseum at 915-479-7825. Prices start at $5 per ticket.

Oklahoma City is currently ranked second in the division, after they clinched a berth in the finals by beating the Springfield Express in three games last weekend.

Last time the two teams played, Oklahoma City beat the Rhinos 5-4 in overtime. Since that loss in January, the Rhinos have won 20 consecutive games. The Blazers are one of only two teams who have beaten the Rhinos this season. The other team, Idaho Icecats, beat the Rhinos 3-2 on Dec. 19.
