Area football players have chance at scholarships at Greater El Paso Football Showcase
EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) -- The annual Greater El Paso Football Showcase is happening this weekend and high school athletes have an opportunity to receive scholarships.
The high school football combine features senior football players who were selected to either the Blue Thunder or Red Storm teams during a first-time draft last month.
Friday's combine focuses on inviting Division I, II, and NAIA colleges to visit El Paso students who were not recruited by Division I colleges.
Approximately 30 colleges and about 50 coaches attended and offer scholarships to El Paso seniors.
The colleges ranged from throughout Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Arizona, Oregon, Wisconsin, Illinois, North Dakota, Missouri, Iowa and Indiana.
Scholarship hopefuls must have graduated this year, scored at least 800 on the SAT math/verbal, scored 16 or above ACT, be in the upper graduation class and have a GPA of 2.2 or more.
The football game between the two teams will be played at UTEP’s Sun Bowl at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 dollars the day of the game.
