El Paso awarded PSL soccer team

PSL El Paso Southwest Wolves

Tryouts to join El Paso's first united Premiere Soccer League team happened this past weekend.

The Southwestern FC Wolves held tryouts for the season, which starts in March.

The Southwest FC General Manager is Endy Gonzalez, a former collegiate player.

“Our main goal is to appeal to the people and show them that if you want something done you have to go out there and get it. We know soccer is big here and there are people playing here in all the categories, and we’re going to tap into that,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, 20, played academy soccer in Mexico before immigrating to the United States.

“I’ve been looking at the UPSL for about a year and after a while of contemplating whether or not we can sustain this project I said, ‘We just have to do it,’” Gonzalez said. “We’re going to fight for 90 minutes for that crest on the shirt, and for the people of El Paso.”

Southwest FC is currently negotiating its venue options.
