UTEP Women’s Golf opens Conference USA championship in third place
FORT Myers, Fla. —
After one day of play at the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship in Fort Myers, Florida, UTEP is off to good start at the Conference USA Championship.
The Miners shot 300 as a team on Monday, putting the team in third place behind UTSA and Middle Tennessee State. With 36 holes left to be played over the next two days, the Miners are six strokes behind the leader, UTSA (294), and one stroke behind second-place Middle Tennessee State (299).
So far, the Miners have been led by Abbie Anghelescu and Valeria Mendizabal. They both shot two strokes over par, at 74, on Monday, leaving them tied for sixth place. Anghelescu and Mandizabal aren’t the only Miners on the board; Lily Downs is tied for 12th place with a score of 75, June Ting is tied for 27th place with a score of 77, and Shannon O’Dwyer sits in 60th place with a score of 89.
The tournament will continue tomorrow, starting at 8 a.m. EDT.
